snow, sledding, snowmen...and Power Rangers

Cabin fever hit an all-time high this week at our house following the ice storm we had last weekend. But a warming temp to 32 degrees and a dumping of 4-6" of perfectly wet and playful snow this weekend was the perfect remedy. We're thinking about all of our family in Springfield and Republic, Missouri - we hope you are all able to defrost soon (and take care of your leg, Kay!).

We have a new obsession in our household - Power Rangers. For the past two days, we have lived and breathed Power Rangers. Jack used some of his Christmas money to complete his collection of the entire Overdrive team (He received the blue and red Power Ranger from Aunt Sherry and Uncle Don as a Christmas present - a lifesaver for David and me as Jack declared only two days before Christmas that he desperately wanted Power Rangers for Christmas.) He's made it his new life goal to get every other Power Ranger team that has been released since 1996.

There's Humans and Then There's Power Rangers

I wrote this post awhile back and never published it. Given Jack's all-consuming interest in Power Rangers, I thought it needs to be posted....

Last night Jack and I were sitting on the couch reading an issue of Little Kids National Geographic. The theme for the issue was Africa and one of the articles featured the Masaii people of Africa. Jack seemed really interested in how different they looked from him, and I saw it as a great opportunity for a lesson on the human race. We talked about how people can have different colors of skin, how they dress differently, talk differently, and so on, but that no matter how different everyone seems on the outside, we're all the same - human beings. Well, Jack was listening intently and absorbing it all - until he suddenly got a sly smile to the left side of his face and said, "Well, not everyone is human, there's human beings and then there's POWER RANGERS!"
